Tungsten powder manufacturers and traders have high willing to maintain the current market price due to the rise in raw material price and shortage of supply. While the situation of terminal demand has not yet improved and new orders are less, so the space of rise is limited. Short-term tungsten powder market will be stable. Chinatungsten Online reported that tungsten powder price has rised more than 53 per cent from $27/kg at the beginning of year to $42/kg at the end of year.

Guide Prices for Chinese Tungsten Market Declined, As Expected

Large tungsten enterprises’ guide prices were released, which decline as expected. Affected by that, market confidence was weakened, buyers remained weak buying interests and sellers considered profit-taking to move materials.

Wolframite concentrate was quoted at $15,538.5/t, down $1,230.8/t compared with July; ammonium paratungstate Cemented Carbide Blade was quoted at $286.8/mtu, down $17.4/mtu from last month; medium particle tungsten powder was quoted at $40.8/kg, down $2/kg, according to Ganzhou Tungsten Association.

In Zhangyuan Tungsten, wolframite concentrate (WO3≥65%) was quoted at $15,538.5/t, down $615.4/t from last month; scheelite concentrate (WO3≥65%) was quoted at $15,307.7/t, down $615.4/t; APT was quoted at $286.8/mtu, down tungsten carbide bar $8.7/mtu compared with the second half of July. 

Xiamen Tungsten also declined offer level for APT by $13.9/mtu to $286.8/mtu. It was reported that APT prices in Chinese tungsten market basically fall below $295.5 per mtu as manufacturers are under pressure.

China¡¯s Zhangyuan Tungsten Stabilized New Offers for August

The tungsten powder and tungsten carbide powder prices continue to maintain stability in the Chinese tungsten market. The new offers for the second half of August from large tungsten companies stabilized, giving the market a stable signal. The market now still features difficult sales in high-prices and purchasing in low-price materials. 

On Tuesday, China’s Zhangyuan Tungsten released its tungsten carbide bar new offers for the second half of this month: wolframite concentrate (WO3≥55%) was quoted at $10,703.20/t; scheelite concentrate (WO3≥55%) was quoted at $10,468.80/t; ammonium paratungstate (APT) was quoted at $191.60/mtu, unchanged from last time. 

For the policy side, some companies issued a notice saying that in order to ensure the blue sky and white clouds in the 70th anniversary of the National Day military parade, it is expected that all production enterprises in the north of the Yellow River will stop production and reduce emissions from September 1. Although relevant departments of the state have not yet issued specific measures to stop or limit production, the market expected to have a large-scale production limit before the National Day, which may further tighten the supply and promote the adjustment of tungsten prices. 

About the Fanya tungsten carbide plates stockpiles, the tungsten market is focusing on the flow of 431.95 tons of tungsten and 29,651 tons of ammonium paratungstate after related antimony and rare earth products were all auctioned last week. Some people worried that current weak balance of supply and demand in the industry is hard to react the impact of Fanya stocks entering the market. However, some operators also indicated that due to the large volume of stocks involved and the current low market prices, it is expected tungsten products involved in the Fanya case will not be able to flow into the market at one time, and with the clearness of the disposal plan, market risks and concerns may gradually be digested, which is actually good for industry adjustment and bottoming rebound.

On the teleconference held by CITIC Securities on August 8, Qiu Wanyi, secretary general of Ganzhou Tungsten Association, pointed out that one of the reasons for the recent decline in tungsten prices is the Fanya APT inventory. However, experts pointed out that the inventory solid tungsten carbide rods itself does not need to worry too much, because the market can consume it within three months, and the source price will be within a reasonable range.

China Tungsten Concentrate Market Stabilizes Affected by US Election

The ammonium metatungstate (APT) and tungsten carbide powder prices in China maintain stability in late October as the market is still in a stalemate in the weak of persistent weakness in overseas markets. 

China’s Xianglu Tungsten released its new offers for the second half of October: 55% black tungsten concentrate was quoted at $12,769.2 per tone, down $307.7 per tone compared with the first half of this month; 55% scheelite concentrate was quoted at $12,615.4 per tone, seeing a decline of $ tungsten carbide weight 307.7 per tone; APT was quoted at $221.6 per mtu, a decline of $3.5 per mtu.

The tungsten concentrate market is stable with poor deals and prices of about $12,923 per tone. With the support of high production cost, suppliers are reluctant to sell product at low prices, which is the reason to avoid shape price decline of intermediate goods. However, downstream users still are not active in purchasing. The whole market trading is low. 

The APT and tungsten powder markets also keep stable as there are many uncertain factors affecting the external environment, including depreciation of RMB exchange, Brexit, the US election, the spread of Covid-19, and logistic constrain of various countries under geopolitical risks. In the short term, the tungsten carbide sheet market is expected to continue its stability.

Ammonium paratungstate price is RMB 125,000/ton,and equals that of the last round. Ganzhou tungsten association July forecasted an average worfremite price Cemented Tungsten Carbide of RMB 81,500/ton, reducing RMB 1,000/ton compare to the last month. APT quotation is RMB 12.5/ton, reducing RMB 1,000/ton compared with the last month. And medium grain tungsten powder quotation is RMB 200/kg, reducing RMB 5/kg compared to that of the last month. In addition, Wikipedia information data shows that since 2017, tungsten concentrate, ammonium paratungstate prices increased by 12%-15%.
