Walter USA’s G3051-P grooving system uses MX22-2L/R indexable inserts inclined by 3 degrees to enable deep grooving operations along the shoulder. The four-edged MX inserts are available with Walter’s GD8 and VG8 fast feed milling inserts geometries.
The GD8 geometry was developed for grooving along shoulders and grooving large diameters without interference of the insert with the finished workpiece. The VG8 geometry was designed for finishing operations behind a collar. The company says that its narrow shape reduces space requirements and saves material in mass production when compared to V-style ISO turning inserts.
The G3051-P grooving system can be used on CNC lathes and multi-spindle machines as well as automatic lathes. These holders, available in shank sizes of 0.625" to 1.0" and 12 to 25 mm, are designed with Walter’s precision cooling feature. The holders enable cutting depths ranging to 0.197" (5 mm), with insert widths ranging from 0.059" 0.118" (1.5 to 3 mm). The technology is particularly suited to high-volume Carbide Turning Inserts production of smaller components, such as camshafts in the automotive industry and precision parts in the medical device industry.
The MX inserts’ large contact surfaces and dowel pin location contribute to stability, precision and indexing accuracy. The tangential arrangement of the grooving inserts is said to provide flatness and promote good surface quality.

SPI Lasers offers the redPower 500-W M2<1.1 and M2~7.5 lasers capable of both cutting and welding applications. The two lasers feature Ethernet connectivity, a range of collimated and divergent beam diameter outputs, tube process inserts back reflection tolerance, and Carbide Milling Inserts long output fibers.
The M2<1.1 is designed for high speed cutting with speeds exceeding 30 m/min. The laser is capable of cutting mild steel as thick as 6 mm with its single-moded beam quality, and is said to maintain beam quality even at increased power with improved depth of field.
The M2~7.5 laser spreads energy across a flatter top than the sharp Gaussian beam profile and gives a wider cut kerf so that gas flow can be maintained on thicker materials. This laser is said to increase cutting speeds on stainless steel thicker than 1.5 mm.

Emuge-Franken USA has introduced a full line of 3XD and 5XD solid carbide drills that are designed fast feed milling inserts for a wide range of materials and applications in high-mix, low-volume job shop environments.
Emuge’s MultiDrill is made of a specialized sub-micro grain carbide grade that is harder than conventional carbide grades for drilling, yet retains the ability to withstand shock and chipping. MultiDrill features a TiAlN-T63 coating that uses nano-layer technology with surface hardness, exceeding standard TiAlN-based coatings for reduced friction at high temperatures.
Featuring concave cutting edges, MultiDrill has higher chip shearing ability and a tightly controlled edge preparation process that is said to provide consistent performance and long tool life. In addition, a double-margin design helps stabilize the drill in the cut, enabling rounder, more accurate holes. Another MultiDrill feature is a drill web construction with an open cemented carbide inserts flute form for maximum chip evacuation. MultiDrills are also self-centering, eliminating pre-spot drilling applications, and all tools feature through-coolant capability.
Emuge MultiDrill is available in 3XD and 5XD sizes from 0.1181"-0.7500", a total of 372 SKUs in the program.

Kennametal offers a shrink-fit toolholding system for machining centers and multi-tasking slot milling cutters machines. The program is split in two lines: general purpose (GP) and high torque (HT). The GP line is designed for carbide, HSS and steel shanks with clamping torques suitable for most general engineering, die and mold, automotive and other machining tasks. The HT line is suited for heavy roughing operations that require a higher clamping torque, or for difficult-to-cut materials such as those found in the aerospace industry. The HT line has a 30 to 50 percent higher clamping torque than the GP line, resulting in improved chip removal, faster performance and increased productivity, the company says.
All HSK shrink-fit toolholders are balanced to G2.5 at 25,000 rpm. In addition, the shrink-fit program accommodates steep taper, BT, CV and DV back-ends. According to the company, other features and benefits include a rigid and accurate connection BTA deep hole drilling inserts to the toolholder; a shrinking and cooling process that lasts less than 30 seconds; concentricity of 3μm; a slim profile for milling deep cavities; a through-hole for coolant; and more.
