Dormer Pramet has added a new set Cemented Carbide Inserts of tooling to its parting-off and grooving assortment. The 0.98" GL double-edged insert is available in a variety of widths ranging from 0.08" 0.236". Designed for long-grooving applications, GL supports 60% capacity over the existing LCMF16 insert, the company says. The G8330 PVD insert grade is said to maintain stability when machining steel, stainless steel and cast iron.
The insert is also supported by two new geometries. The PR geometry is designed for medium to high feeds in a variety of machining conditions. Its cutting edge strength resists cracking when grooving interrupted cuts and is ideal for the parting off of barstock, according to the company. The PM geometry is an option for low to medium feeds into softer materials, such as austenitic stainless steel, as it offers greater resistance bar peeling inserts to built-up edge and reduces burrs when parting-off tubes.
Toolholders are available with shank dimensions ranging from 0.63" to 0.98" and an overhang ranging to 1.26".
Designed for small part machining, the tools feature a 30-degree angled screw position for easier indexing and a brace to increase toughness.

Walter USA’s G3051-P grooving system uses MX22-2L/R indexable inserts inclined by 3 degrees to enable deep grooving operations along the shoulder. The four-edged MX inserts are available with Walter’s GD8 and VG8 fast feed milling inserts geometries.
The GD8 geometry was developed for grooving along shoulders and grooving large diameters without interference of the insert with the finished workpiece. The VG8 geometry was designed for finishing operations behind a collar. The company says that its narrow shape reduces space requirements and saves material in mass production when compared to V-style ISO turning inserts.
The G3051-P grooving system can be used on CNC lathes and multi-spindle machines as well as automatic lathes. These holders, available in shank sizes of 0.625" to 1.0" and 12 to 25 mm, are designed with Walter’s precision cooling feature. The holders enable cutting depths ranging to 0.197" (5 mm), with insert widths ranging from 0.059" 0.118" (1.5 to 3 mm). The technology is particularly suited to high-volume Carbide Turning Inserts production of smaller components, such as camshafts in the automotive industry and precision parts in the medical device industry.
The MX inserts’ large contact surfaces and dowel pin location contribute to stability, precision and indexing accuracy. The tangential arrangement of the grooving inserts is said to provide flatness and promote good surface quality.

Emuge-Franken USA has introduced a full line of 3XD and 5XD solid carbide drills that are designed fast feed milling inserts for a wide range of materials and applications in high-mix, low-volume job shop environments.
Emuge’s MultiDrill is made of a specialized sub-micro grain carbide grade that is harder than conventional carbide grades for drilling, yet retains the ability to withstand shock and chipping. MultiDrill features a TiAlN-T63 coating that uses nano-layer technology with surface hardness, exceeding standard TiAlN-based coatings for reduced friction at high temperatures.
Featuring concave cutting edges, MultiDrill has higher chip shearing ability and a tightly controlled edge preparation process that is said to provide consistent performance and long tool life. In addition, a double-margin design helps stabilize the drill in the cut, enabling rounder, more accurate holes. Another MultiDrill feature is a drill web construction with an open cemented carbide inserts flute form for maximum chip evacuation. MultiDrills are also self-centering, eliminating pre-spot drilling applications, and all tools feature through-coolant capability.
Emuge MultiDrill is available in 3XD and 5XD sizes from 0.1181"-0.7500", a total of 372 SKUs in the program.

Seco Tools Jabro JHF180 MEGA-6Carbide Milling inserts 4 solid carbide end mill series is suited for machining hardened steels ranging from 48 to 62 HRC. The end mill features a rigid 0.9-degree tapered neck design that reduces tool deflection, enables deep cavity milling and improves surface finish, the company says. The flute cavity design and angle on the back of the tooth guide and eject the chips away from the cutting edge. It also features a wear-resistant MEGA-64 AlTiN coating with an 8-percent carbide substrate.
The end mill is available in diameters ranging from 2 to 16 mm with reach options ranging from 2× to 7× diameter. It is equipped with three, four or five flutes, depending on the style. The end mill range is suited for high-feed milling applications, including face milling, slotting, ramping, helical interpolation, ramping and Z-level machining.
The companys high-feed Indexable Threading Insert milling strategy is based on transferring cutting forces from the radial direction to axial, which reduces the risk for vibrations and stabilizes machining. Small depths of cut combined with high table feeds produce a thinner chip that carries heat away from the cutting edge and reduces cutting forces, the company says. This approach reduces heat generation to extend tool life and increases the metal removal rate.

Air Turbine Tools offers its Tool Breakage Alarm System to protect work in process and cutting tools, which helps prevent scrapped parts, lost hours and machine damage.
As cutting tools follows the programed tool path, Air Turbine Tools’ tool breakage detector system monitors air flow for deviation from a sensitive baseline record of compressed air consumption.
If the cutting tool breaks, Carbide Inserts the Tool Breakage Alarm System activates to alert the operator with a light and/or a klaxon. Operators can also program the system to stop the CNC machine automatically if the CNC or robot control Tungsten Steel Inserts is connected to the Tool Breakage Alarm System’s external port — permitting unattended operation 24/7.
Compressor malfunctions are also detected by the system. If a compressor malfunctions, or if air flow is diverted to other machines, Air Turbine Tools’ Tool Breakage Alarm detects airflow cavitation and alerts the operator or stops the program, protecting work in process, tools and machines from drops in air pressure.
